Intro

The blog is about a meeting during a day for Phonic FM at the Phoenix in Exeter on June 9th. It concentrates on radio and continues something from previous Lancaster conferences on Management Theory at Work. The posts are intended to collect links and content from various locations. there will be a more organised version during May. Meanwhile it may be a bit tentative, definitely subject to change.

Possibly there will be a third actual Management Theory at Work at the Work Foundation sometime in 2019. #mtw3 has been a social media tag for such an event so still finds content. I am not sure how the day will work out but guess the theory will be in background. Aim is to collect lots of mp3 and video but not play it all. On the day mostly linking clips to combine with content from other sources. Guests welcome but usually a 30 min limit.

The Standup Philosopher can continue longer but is also part of the storytelling in another space. The first realtime event had one closing plenary from Chris Grey on "re-imagining relevance of universities" . This suggested critique as a preferred role to consultancy. It could have been at the beginning in which case there would have been a different direction. Depending on other timings I think somewhere in the middle would be a good time for the Standup Philosopher to consider the balance of critique and practice suited as a basis for other discussion.

( For those just tuning out, also time for how to relate social media / print as promo for Storyteller events. Agenda assumes some sort of output )

From previous version of  Management Theory at Work in Radio ( #mtwr )

This will be revised, please contact him with current views.

Some ideas have been covered in the Wild Show or @wenotno so there are clips on YouTube already. Not in the same way as for an academic conference but I will show the links as well.

Anna Marie Waite spoke about mindfulness and her own situation after being a Phonic FM presenter. We will try to get an update.

At the second conference Dr Bronwen Rees spoke about mindfulness and meditation. More links later. See website for Incubatio.

Design Science is one approach to practice from theory. With JD ( the top DJ on Twitter..) I have claimed to be a Design Science DJ. There is a playlist with several clips around this. We are not much closer to agreeing what we are on about but there are clips from John Burgoyne which may be updated.

By permission there is an edit of a talk by Antony Upward that is a better explanation of Design Science. More recent clips may be available.

Main set of issues seems to be the digital disruption around radio. FM continues but as part of something else. Social media has mostly been developed by presenters alongside formal Phonic FM operations. In 2016 Radio 1 Academy was at the Phoenix as part of the Big Weekend. they spoke of "visual radio", more or less video. Production standards can vary. Many others share my own situation in that there is a gap between possible levels now and a funded basis in future. Subscriptions could be one solution but there is no YouTube RED in UK. Talk continues with some case studies such as bands / performers based in Exeter or on a visit. Black Tabs mentioned mostly so far as they are based in Houston Texas so may know about SxSW and related ideas.

Event is planned for between 12 and 6. People from other radio stations will be at another event from 10 to 4 so some may stay to join this one between 4 and 6. So probably a repeat of the main points plus maybe some conclusions or exchange of info on what is already happening.

Links to academic content could include the way education is moving online. Will resources move into platforms as well as buildings? May relate to Arts Centre also so could interest others who turn up at Phoenix.
